What is A Sabino Arabian

and

The Sabino Arbian Horse Registry?

This color registry was established in 2001 by a group of Arabian horse owners and enthusiasts who found Arabians came in more than solid colors. The SAHR's mission is to recognize and promote the Sabino traits of the purebred Arabian horse. The Sabino Arabian horse will posses both genes and markings of the pinto color as well as be purebred Arabian possessing correct conformation, Arabian type, and be athletic. The Sabino Arabian Horse Registry is solely a color registry. At this time we are not going to register breeding stock. Although if it is requested we will do a separate page, just to list breeding stock. The Registry is open to purebred Arabians throughout the world, registered with a purebred registry.

Do you think you may own a Sabino Arabian?

Characteristics of a Sabino Arabian horse:

A bald, wide or apron blaze that extends over the muzzle and under the jaw, with/without black spots on or around the muzzle or white that extends or occurs past where the bridle would lay. High white stockings that extend past mid-knee or mid-hock or disconnected leg markings.

Some form of body white (Examples: Body white on the [but not limited] the belly, a girth spot, a body spot or body spots) is also common. A loudly marked overo looking horse with lacey markings. In some cases the foal may be born almost pure white, usually with some speckles of chestnut or bay or black in the body and usually has a medicine hat (dark markings on the ears and forelock resembling a hat). Foals who are born almost pure white are not to be confused with the lethal white foal which dies at birth or shortly thereafter, a Sabino white foal is born healthy.

The Sabino gene is not to be confused with the Roaning gene or Rabicano gene. They are completely different genes that can sometimes occur together but are not necessarily indicative of the Sabino gene.
